By the age of 25, most of us come to the realization that the dream of becoming a professional athlete is in the rear view mirror, thus shifting the goal from running the bases to running a professional sports team. As it turns out, the only thing tougher to become than a pro athlete is the guy in charge of pro athletes. Rather than throw in the towel, we decided to take a shot at purchasing a professional sports team by using an innovative and unique business model. In the process we may even change the way fans interact with professional sports altogether.
HOW?
The concept is simple. In order to raise the money needed to buy a sports franchise, we are selling fans the right to vote on all team decisions related to the franchise we purchase. We are looking for fans that share the dream of running a professional sports team, and know that they can do a better job than the overpaid suit about to draft the next Ryan Leaf. Basically, for the price of $5 we are selling the opportunity to participate as the GM of a professional sports franchise.
For every $5 contribution, you will receive a vote on all team decisions that league rules will allow. Fans may purchase as many GM votes as they like. The fans will choose the team we purchase and vote on everything, from the team name and colors, to the coaches, lineups down to the selection of condiments at the concession stands. All of this at the fingertips of those interested in managing a pro team, but don’t have the money to own one. People who join the Project Franchise Team will even be eligible to apply for other official team positions. It’s like the ultimate fantasy sport or video game, brought to life, all for the same price it would cost to buy all of Air Supply’s hits on iTunes.
Best of all, there is no risk to the fans. Project Franchise will not ask for any contributions until enough people have registered at ProjectFranchise.org to actually support the purchase of a professional sports team. Once we ensure that there is a sufficient level of registrants to support the project, then we will begin offering votes for sale at the initial price of $5 per vote.

WHY IT WILL WORK
We may be dreamers, but we aren’t completely delusional. While we’d love to raise a few hundred million bucks and buy ourselves a serious MLB, NFL, NBA, MLS or NHL franchise, we realize that this is probably going be something that starts small and builds itself up. The more realistic plan is to raise enough money to purchase an NBA-D League, Arena Football, American Hockey League, or Minor League Baseball franchise, and start living the dream on a budget – and showing the sports world that the fans deserve to be listened to.
